Night out on the Town...
Above is a photo montage of some of the pics from a night on the town last week with my fella. We didn't get to the city in time to use our free tickets to see the Colbert Report (Bummer!), but got VIP tickets for another showing - sweet! So boy-wonder took me to Serendipity III instead, and we had our own adventure. In a city so big, there is ALWAYS something to do and I am continuously getting to mark things off my "to see" list!
Serendipity was amazing. I wasn't too sure about it, because my buddy Linda had a pretty rotten experience there. But we had great service and didn't have to wait too long. I got this great sandwich called "The Catcher in the Rye" (I have an obsession with food named after literature - it's the librarian in me) and Tim had this bizarre hamburger that was made out of black beans instead of beef, called "The Alamo" (which was weird for my Texan hubby who is a big beef eater). The place was a kitsch masterpiece, which totally added to the ambiance of our little adventure. We even splurged on a "Frrrozen Hot Chocolate" and we found out that Oprah was so right about them being her favorite!
We continued our night-time excursion by strolling around the area, finding the COOLEST candy store ever. Talk about serendipitous! The place is called Dylan's Candy Bar and it has absolutely everything. When we walked in, they were playing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and people were sitting at a bar munching on all different types of candy. Surreal. We came out of there with a bag of Cinnamon Bears, a cool PEZ truck dispenser that looks like a Hotwheels car, a cherry licorice pipe (for Tim), a box of nerds, and some candy lipstick! Oh what fun. Seriously though, I found my new mecca.
While Tim and I strolled, we saw some wacky things worth mentioning. Would you believe that, near Time Square, there is a huge Home Depot? It is not like anything I've EVER seen before. I was multi-leveled with elegant elevators and a doorman. Whaaa?!? I am still confused about that one. We also saw a row of pizza bikes, lined up outside a store. Can you imagine living in a city so big that people must ride their bikes to deliver pizza because traffic is so bad? Bizarre. Tim and I make a game of it sometimes - who can spot the strangest thing. You'd be surprised at how long we can keep this going.
Finally, we stopped by the bar Andy (little brother) works in. That was a really great way to end our night. He works at this cool little bar in Chelsea called Brite Bar. It has an amazing view of the Empire State Building. Tim and I just sat for a while, enjoying being in New York - the strangest, but most exciting and likeable of all the cities in the world. (But I may be biased, now.)
(BTW - The photobucket thing above is an experiment. Anyone know of a better *free* service for Blogger that filmstrips pictures?)

Hey Suzy, this is Donna from your Children's Lit class. :) It's really funny that you posted a pic of you in front of a goblet of Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, b/c I have a pic of me doing the same thing maybe a year and a half ago! Except, I have the straw in my mouth, w/ a sly look at the camera that says, "Dare me to drink this all by myself..." I actually did too, to prove to myself that I could, and I had a stomach ache the rest of the night - I don't recommend it. And Dylan's candy shop IS amazing, isn't it? I think they play Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on loop though, because when I was there a while ago they had that movie on too. Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say hey :) Glad you had fun at Serendipity! See you in 2 weeks...

Hey Suzy,
I have to show this to Ben, he would really dig the candy shop. I think I will add a story about candy to my blog.
