Yay For Jill!

My friend Jill just had her baby! (I hope I look as cute in my "after" picture!) Tim and I are so excited for them (and nervous for when our time comes...). The little fella is named John Joseph Turpin. Hooray for Jill!

Recent Adventures

I know that I have been rotten at posting lately, but it is not because I haven't had anything to post! I guess it is because I am either just lazy or that I've been addicted to the "Knighthood" game on Facebook. Either way, I apologize to my adoring fans (yes, all three of you).

Anywho, two weeks ago, Tim and I made a little day trip to Philadelphia to see a couple of museums and just spend a fun day away. Everyone needs a little something every now and then. (I find that I seriously need to escape NY about once every two months or so - this place is pretty heavy duty sometimes!) Philly is about an hour and a half/two hour drive away, so this was a do-able trip. We had a super time! We visited the Philadelphia Mint and saw how coins are made (free, yes-sir-ee) and we had lunch at a Chick-fil-a (worth the trip alone) and then we went over and spent most of the day at the Franklin Institute, which is a children's hands-on museum that is incredible.

The Franklin Institute was a blast! We walked through, doing all the things the little kids were doing (shameless, aren't we?). One of my favorite things they had was a giant heart that you could walk through - similar to the one I remembered back at the science museum in Savannah Ga, where I grew up. I used to think that was the coolest. They also had an awesome aeronautical section that we enjoyed.

We mainly went to visit the Franklin Institute to see the Star Wars Exhibit they had going on, which was top notch! They had real costumes, robots, and props from the filming of all six films, including Princess Leia's white robe and Han Solo's McHotty outfit (I made similar costumes for us for Halloween back in 2002 - they look pretty good, don't they?!?). They even had a hover-craft that you could ride! Tim and I knew we were geeks, but it sure was a whole lot of fun. (See the post below for a short video of the pictures we took in the exhibit.)

After the exhibit, Tim rode the air bike, which was suspended FOUR stories high. (I didn't do it because it said "no children or pregnant women." I know I could have done it anyway because I'm not showing too much yet, but okay... I was too chicken. Whatever.) We left the museum around four-ish and grabbed a famous Philly Cheese Steak at Pat's and went to a really cool baby consignment shop, then headed home. A nice full day of adventure without a vacation price tag. And I'm so glad I had my best friend to travel with.

Teenage Pregnancy and Me

Today I was judged. I know I was. But I think it was hilariously funny - so take that, mean old ladies at Curves.

I was doing my little workout routine; and at Curves there is a workout circuit, which means you go around in a circle doing the machines and are prompted to move on to the next one. Anyway, there are two machines that my doctor told me to skip, being in my second trimester and everything. So, for some reason, the ladies are always asking me why I am skipping those two machines. I don't know if it because I am 30+ years younger than most of them that they feel this is appropriate behavior or what, but I have yet to see anyone else get questioned for their routine.

Today, it got a bit personal. I was between two ladies this time, one was in her late 40's/early 50's and the other was in her late 60's. The younger of the two began the questioning after my first skipped machine. She began politely and I answered her, letting her know why I was going to be skipping certain machines (not that it was any of her business) and at first she was nice. The old woman chimed in a congratulations as well. The questions, unfortunately, kept coming. They seemed to think I was around the age of 18 and that I was a baby myself. I swear, I almost had to show these ladies ID!!!

I shrugged it off and let them know how old I am (again, none of their business) and as I left, I heard them talking about the movie Juno, in reference to me. Wow. FOR REAL. Maybe next time I'll have my birth certificate and marriage license on me. Do I really look that young?!?

Driving Home

The craziest things happen to me in that car ride home after work.

A couple of weeks ago, as I was driving home and singing at the top of my lungs some crazy chick music, I had the distinct feeling that I was being watched. And that bugs me, because I feel like car time is private time. Don't look at me when I'm driving. Look at my vehicle, but don't watch me. I'll probably do something embarrassing and that isn't cool to be seen doing embarrassing stuff. Anyway, as I was looking around to see if I was being watched, I saw these crazy eyes peeking out from the car in front of me. It freaked me out, because the eyes were coming from the driver seat, which would mean that the person's head was spun completely around. There was bushy hair all around the odd face, too. I squinted and moved around in my seat to try and get a better angle. Then I laughed all the rest of the way home. It was some freakishly small chihuahua dog sitting on a big ole bushy headed lady.

So yesterday, I was driving home, singing at the top of my lungs (like usual), and doing my private time in the car, when I heard some kind of flapping. I was confused by it, so I turned my music down. Yup, the flapping was still there. I turned my music off and looked all around in my mirrors. I didn't see anything, so I rolled my window down and determined it was coming from the driver's side. By this time, I am freaking out a little. I don't know much about cars and I don't think (to my daddy's chagrin) that I could change a tire if need be. So I figured I'd keep driving and maybe check at a stoplight. All kinds of things are running through my mind about this time. Did I pop a tire? Did I run over some small animal and it's still attached to my wheel? Is something important gonna fall off my car? And lucky me, I am making ALL the stop lights. I finally stop at a stop sign and scoot in my chair out of anxiety. At this point, I have just decided that I am gonna drive this death trap home and see if I can make it. As I scoot in my chair, I notice that I am feeling a bit of resistance. Then I start laughing as I pull my stupid coat tie out of the door. I'm so daft sometimes. The rest of my ride was flap free after that.

I think driving home from work from now on is my favorite part of the day. Every day is an adventure.

52 Blessings - Surprise!

(Well, this won't be a surprise for some of you... and for the rest of you, this is why I haven't been blogging much!)

I'm having a BABY!!! That's a pretty big blessing, if I do say so myself. (Although, whenever I'm about to puke my guts out or when I have trouble sleeping at night or when all I CAN do is sleep, it doesn't feel like much of a blessing.) I'm pretty excited about all this baby stuff. I'm just finished with my first trimester, which means I'm a whopping 3 months pregnant. Tim and I are really ready to start a little family. We've been married now for 8 and a half years, so it's not like we're jumping in to this! Our parents, I think, were starting to wonder if we were gonna procreate or not. Well, this September, we'll have a little mini Bomgardner. How cool is that?!?

If you want to read more about this blessing of ours, you can go check my baby blog over at jellybean.grrrlmeetsworld.com.

52 Blessings - Sixth Edition

(Okay, I know it's late... but hey, at least it is in the same week as it was promised.)

Strawberries:

Lately, I just can't get enough of them. I've always been a "strawberry" girl, but lately it's been a bit obsessive. For the past few weeks, I've had strawberries every day! I usually like them around lunch time, because they are nice and cool from my fridge and sweet enough to eat without lots of sugar. Yum!

Have you ever noticed that you can't be sad while eating strawberries? And it's a favorite fruit that can be a favorite flavor, as well... Strawberries are definitely a blessing.

BSG Last Supper

For anyone who is a fan of Battlestar Galactica, this is for you... Here's the link to the actual picture for clues to Season 4. (But Tim, you better not read anything because I made the mistake of reading a particular clue and found out that somebody is a dang cylon. Dad-gum it! I should have known better.)
